WHY DID MY FILM ROLL FAIL?
35mm film can sometimes fail to work due to issues with the film itself or how it's handled. One common problem is expired or poorly stored film, which can lead to color shifts, fogging, or a complete loss of image detail. Film is sensitive to heat, humidity, and light—so if it’s left in a hot car, exposed to x-rays during travel, or opened before it's developed, it can become damaged. Manufacturing defects, though rare, can also cause issues like uneven emulsion or improper perforations, making it difficult for the camera to advance the film properly.
Another reason 35mm film might not work is due to problems with the camera or loading process. If the film isn’t loaded correctly, it might not advance at all, or only partially, resulting in blank or overlapping frames. Mechanical faults in older or poorly maintained cameras—like a broken shutter, faulty light seals, or misaligned film transport mechanisms—can cause exposure problems or light leaks. Even user error, such as forgetting to set the correct ISO or accidentally rewinding the film mid-roll, can lead to disappointing or unusable results.
We’re unable to offer a refund if your film doesn’t work because there are many factors outside our control once the film leaves our store. Film is a light-sensitive and perishable product, and how it's stored, handled, and used can all significantly affect its performance. Exposure to heat, moisture, or light before development, incorrect loading into a camera, or even mechanical issues with the camera itself can all cause the film not to work properly. These variables make it impossible for us to verify whether the issue was due to the film itself or how it was used.
Like with many photographic and consumable products, film is sold on the understanding that it will be used correctly and with care. We ensure all film is genuine, unopened, and stored appropriately before sale. Once opened or used, however, it can’t be resold or tested without processing it, which alters the product. For this reason, and to keep our prices fair for all customers, we cannot offer refunds or exchanges on film that fails after purchase unless there is a clear, proven manufacturing fault.
